ADRIFT

I'm adrift on a sea of broken promises
And wounded hearts.
I float on tears of tortured lovers,

Sinking beneath the surface
Away from the sun.
The only light is from the putrefaction
Of decaying dreams.

There are chemicals
Which would make me reach the surface
For a while,

They'll never last,
And when it fades it will turn into weights
To speed my journey to the depths.

I could cling to another
Who floats above me,
But given time I will drag them down.

So I sink alone in my sea
And dream of the warmth
Of the sun on my face.
